The police have seized Sting’s luxury villa after uncovering a series of workplace safety violations.

The Geordie superstar decided to buy the property – located in the small village of Marciano, near Massa Lubrense, Italy – from a Rome-based real estate group in autumn 2024.

The ultra-luxury villa features a swimming pool and a terrace directly overlooking the sea, with views of the island of Capri.

The purchase was intended to become the 74-year-old’s second summer retreat in Italy, after his country estate in Tuscany.

But the company handling the renovation of the seafront property is now facing its first problems, as reported by Need To Know.

During an inspection at the construction site on Wednesday (13 May) afternoon, carabinieri from Massa Lubrense, along with officers from the Carabinieri Labour Inspectorate, found four workers on the first-floor terrace without any safety measures in place.

They also identified several workplace safety violations, including the absence of suitable scaffolding, missing guard rails, a lack of internal access routes, and no fencing around the construction site.

The external worksite, covering around 1,000 sq m including the terraces, was seized as a result of the findings.

The sole director of the company carrying out the renovations has been reported to the Torre Annunziata prosecutor’s office, while remaining at liberty.

The Caserta-based company was also issued fines and penalties totalling around €26,000 (£22,600).

Local media reported yesterday (14 May) that the businessman had five days to comply with the imposed requirements, after which the work can resume.

Sting, who is reportedly often seen travelling between Massa Lubrense and Nerano with his wife Trudie Styler, is said to bear no responsibility for the construction work.

A passer-by told local media: “I haven’t seen him since he bought the villa. But I’m grateful to him, as is everyone who lives in this part of the municipality of Massa Lubrense.

“The water and sewage systems here weren’t sufficient for demand. But Sting stepped in and even contributed a considerable amount from his own pocket.

“New wastewater pipes were laid, storm drains installed, and the drinking water network to homes was upgraded. On top of that, the road was completely resurfaced.”
