Seventeen people were injured when a driver ploughed through a crowd celebrating their team’s World Cup success.

Shocking footage opens with the car moving slowly through assembled fans, with one man lying on the bonnet.

He was then seen climbing down, while others began hitting the vehicle and another pelted the rear windscreen with a drink.

Moments later, the car suddenly accelerated through the crowd, scattering fans, before crashing into the kerb as the man filming shouted: “No way!”

Another clip shows the vehicle’s front end heavily mangled.

A group of fans then rushed towards the car to attack it and confront the driver, while a man lay motionless on the kerb with blood pouring from his head.

The horror unfolded on a main boulevard in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, last night (24 June), following Mexico’s 3–0 victory over the Czech Republic, which secured qualification for the World Cup round of 32.

Authorities have confirmed that 17 people – men and women – were injured and taken to local hospitals.

At least one remains in a serious condition, as reported by Need To Know.

Moments after the chaos, the area was cordoned off to allow emergency crews to transport the injured and remove the damaged vehicle.

Authorities also confirmed that the driver was arrested at the scene by security personnel.

He was taken to hospital under police guard, and his legal status will be determined once his condition allows.

General Secretary of Los Cabos, Alberto Rentería Santana, said: “Coordination between security authorities is ongoing, and investigations into the incident are under way.

“At this moment, our priority is to care for, support and stand by those who have been affected.”
