An eight-year-old who learned how to sew in lockdown is giving Vivienne Westwood a run for her money with impressive hand-stitched garments.

Eva-Rose Wilde, from, Littleborough, Manchester, picked up the skill thanks to mum Amy, 32, who bought her a cross-stitch kit during lockdown in a bid to keep her occupied.

Seeing how much Eva-Rose loved it, the mum-of-three taught the then six-year-old how to hand stitch and make a few cushions.

Aged seven, the mini budding designer began creating dolls’ clothes by sketching out the designs to scale on paper, then cutting out the material and sewing it together with a needle and thread.

She asked for a mannequin for Christmas and has spent the past three weeks creating full-sized garments.

Eva-Rose now loves watching YouTube tutorials and the Great British Sewing Bee for tips and inspiration with her designs.

“I wanted to teach my girls new skills during lockdown and she really took to sewing,” Amy told Jam Press.

“It all started with a little kit from Amazon.

“She talks about Vera Wang a lot as a designer and says she wants to be famous!”

Eva-Rose’s first project was a couple of red shawls, which her mum and grandmother later bought from the primary school pupil for £10 each.

She then used the money to buy new material and decided to turn her hand to adult clothing.

She made a top from her dad Sam’s, 34, old army uniform and a floral dress.

But her most impressive design has been a full-length orange ball gown, which took the schoolgirl eight hours to pin, style and hand stitch it together.

Amy added: “My nan taught me to sew but I couldn’t make a dress like she’s done.

“She is so passionate and talented, a rare hobby to have but I’m super proud of her.

“It’s mostly freehand but she does use her sewing machine when she’s making the cushions.

“Her favourite is the dress – in her words she ‘can’t believe how beautiful it is’.

“She’s now looking at patterns so she can make outfits for her sisters.

“Eva will certainly go far in life and we, as her parents, are willing to support her 100%.”

Proud Amy uploaded photos of her little girl’s creations to Facebook and the post has so far racked up over 11,000 likes, with many praising her skills.

One Facebook user said: “That’s incredible well done you. Not easy making clothes. Soooo impressive x.”

Another wrote: “Holy Cow! That’s bloody brilliant! Well done lovely, you are doing amazing! She deffo needs to go into fashion if she’s that good at 8. X.”

Someone else said: “Wow move over Vivienne Westwood I think you have the next superstar fashion designer on your hands. I love the dress she is truly gifted and inspiring thank you for sharing xx”

Others poked fun at Eva-Rose’s talent compared to their own children.

One mum said: “My 12-year-old son can’t even make himself a sandwich”.

A second impressed parent added: “My twin boys are 8 and they can’t choose their own clothes from the wardrobe let alone design and make them! She is AMAZING fabulous work well done xx.”
