A particularly clever bear was captured on camera breaking into a “bear-resistant” bin.
The quick-witted creature was filmed in Boulder, Colorado, US, by Matt Benjamin, who was baffled when he realised his rubbish had been rifled through by an unwelcome visitor.
In the video, the determined bear can be seen knocking over the bin before using her mouth to open the latch – meant to deter bears and other creatures.
The bear succeeds in opening the bin and pulls out the rubbish bag, dragging it away.
The clip was shared on Twitter, where viewers were stunned.
One user said: “Bears are insanely smart!!!”
“Dang they are so smart living in an urban interface,” someone else agreed.
“Good little bear,” another person added.
Someone else commented: “Smarter than the average bear.”
“I have heard the design problem described as ‘there is considerable overlap between the smartest bear and the stupidest human’,” joked another viewer.
