A clothing advert from brand SHEIN has gone viral on Twitter – with the bizarre picture showing a model holding a water jug inside a pair of tights.
In the campaign shot, a woman models the ‘Solid Plus Size Stirrup Tights’ for $8 (USD), and shows the large water dispenser tucked inside the seam of the tights – presumably to demonstrate their stretchability.
The snap went viral after it was shared on Twitter with the caption: “SHEIN y’all couldn’t find y’all a plus size model??????? Wtf is THIS?” [sic]
The Tweet garnered more than 80,000 likes and hundreds of comments from stunned viewers – with some finding the stunt hilarious, and others criticising the ad.
One person joked: “Like jeees, Thanks cuz I was worried about where to put my large industrial water cooler dispenser. Me and the dehydrated babes are forever greatful.” [sic]
“Yooo they need to be taken DOWN. It’s tewww much now,” another user commented. [sic]
Someone else said: “What an embarrassment.”
“Nahhh they wild for this,” another person added.
“It’s water weight,” quipped another viewer.
One person said: “They’re showing it doesn’t break easily.”
“This is just good advertisement towards shop lifters,” another user joked.
Someone else commented: “This can’t be.”
“Oh my f**king godddd SHEIN !?!?! Whyyyy ???” another person added. [sic]
“No words. None,” said someone else.
Another person said: “Yo PLEASEEEEE tell me this isn’t real.” [sic]
Other users dubbed the move “fatphobic”, “sick” and “crazy”.
One person commented: “I think it’s so sad when brands get things so wrong. The amount of plus-size women that are still not allowed in the modelling industry and instead of using them @shein_official think it’s ok to do this?”
“Shein is in the VIP top 3 going to hell,” another critic said.
Someone else added: “SHAME ON SHEIN.”
The page for the tights appears to have since been taken down.
Jam Press has contacted SHEIN for comment.
