Story from Jam Press (Cartel Party) Pictured: Partygoers at Irma Patricia Cuevas Ovalle's cartel themed party. Outrage as Mexican councillor hosts CARTEL-themed party for son's birthday. A Mexican councillor has sparked outrage after holding a drug cartel-themed party for her son’s birthday. Irma Patricia Cuevas Ovalle deleted the images from her social media account and issued an apology following the online backlash. She held a ‘narco party’ for her son’s birthday that included plastic machine guns and wads of fake cash. The party also had a cake with the logo for the luxury brand Versace that was covered in fake banknotes. Patricia Cuevas Ovalle – councillor for Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, north west of Mexico City, Mexico – even invited fellow officials to the controversial bash. After deleting the images, she said she regretted hosting the family “drug party” and emphasised her commitment to creating a more humane society. The politician, a member of the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico, said: “I am very sorry about the celebration of a private party last weekend. “And the images I posted on social media that I have already proceeded to delete. “It caused a reaction that has nothing to do with enjoying moments of joy and relaxation with our friends and family. “I recognise that it was a mistake on my part to have made the photos of this event public.” José Guadalupe Torres, Secretary General of the State Government, was happy to accept the politician’s apology, and pointed out that the theme is regrettably rooted in local culture. He told local media: “It’s a cartoony way of dealing with what’s happening. “It is part of Mexican culture. I do not agree it should be, but it is not something that is too extreme. “It is part of our culture and this was a way of making fun of our own problems.” The State Government and the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico have both confirmed that they will take no further act
