A 69-year-old model has entered the Miss Universe beauty pageant.

Jocelyn Cubales, also known as Joyce Peñas Pilarsky, still works as a fashion designer.

But the pensioner is one of 15 entrants to the contest.

Raven-haired Jocelyn, of Quezon, in the Philippines, says younger women can learn a lot from her.

If she wins the regional contest, Cubales hopes to participate in the national finals and possibly represent her country at Miss Universe.

Her husband Marc Cubales said she wanted to take part in the pageant to “inspire other Filipino women to pursue their passions and achieve their dreams”.

In a statement, organisers said she “believes that the younger generation can learn a lot from her life experiences, most especially grit”.

They added: “If you think she has what it takes to be the first-ever Miss Universe Philippines – Quezon City, go and share her photo.”

Jocelyn previously took part in the Mrs. Universe contest in 2017.

She was awarded the ‘Mother of the Universe’ title for her charity work for women and children in the Philippines.

That year, the title was won by Luu Hoang Tram from Vietnam.

The Miss Universe Organization removed the age limit for participants last year, allowing models over 28 years of age to enter.

In 2023, the top 5 Miss Universe Philippines participants were Michelle Dee from Makati, Christine Opiaza from Zambales, Angelique Manto from Pampanga, Krishnah Gravidez from Baguio, and Pauline Amelinckx from Bohol.

Quezon’s representative Mary Eileen Gonzales made history as one of three women who were the first mothers to take part in Miss Universe Philippines.

At Miss Universe 2023, Michelle Dee finished in the Top 10.
