A woman has been hospitalised after being bitten by an ‘alien worm’ with legs.
Gladys Zunilda Martínez was standing under a plant in her garden when it fell down her back.
Her daughter Zulma said: “She immediately felt sick and passed out from the pain.”
The 48-year-old was taken to a local health centre in Carlos Antonio López, Paraguay, situated close to the country’s border with Argentina.

Gladys spent several days at the clinic before doctors sent her home.
However, her condition did not improve and she remained in immense pain.
Due to the urgency of the situation, worried family members made her cross the Paraná River in a canoe to reach Argentina and visit a hospital in the border city of Eldorado.
After spending four days in the Argentine medical centre receiving treatment, doctors told Gladys’ relatives that she needs at least 15 days more in hospital.
Zulma said the treatment costs £95 (ARS 98,000) every day her mother stays in the hospital.
She stated that they have already covered costs of £4,813 (ARS 5 million) for her to receive treatment in Argentina.
As a result, relatives have launched an online crowdfunding campaign to help with the ongoing costs.
Zulma said she did not know the exact species of the poisonous worm that bit her mother.
However, she described it as having “six legs”, being “very ugly”, and “looking like an alien”.
