An influencer has been jailed for nearly 14 years for helping her disgraced ex-MP mum escape “from prison”.
Aida Victoria Merlano was found guilty of helping her mother, Aída Merlano Rebolledo go on the run.
Merlano Rebolledo was a member of the Congress of Colombia’s lower house from 2014 to 2018.

She was convicted of conspiracy to commit a crime, electoral offences, and illegal possession of weapons.
Aida Victoria, 23, and her younger brother, then 17, helped her escape from her guards as she attended a dental appointment in Bogotá on 1 October 2019.
In the first trial, the court heard how the siblings handed their mum a black briefcase with materials inside so she could flee.
Merlano Robolledo jumped from the third floor.
Aida Victoria ended up becoming a famous influencer.
She now boasts 5.5 million Instagram followers.
Her mum was recaptured by an elite command of the Venezuelan National Police in Maracaibo on 27 January 2020.
She’s now in jail in Malambo, Colombia.
Hours after the latest verdict, Aida Victoria told her followers she’d been allowed to remain free to prepare an appeal.
She said: “We still believe in justice and we will fight until the end.”
Aida Victoria, who’s in a relationship with the streamer WestCOL, remained stoic about the possibility of being banged up.
She said: “I’ve already seen the snow, I’m currently in a relationship, so I don’t have to ‘go out and meet people’.
“I’ve already seen what I needed to see and I’m fortunate to have a partner already.”
She had been seeking an acquittal or, at the very least, a reduction of her initial seven-year sentence.
However, on Thursday (21 Mar), the Supreme Court decided to extend her sentence to 13 years and 10 months in prison.
Judge Fabio David Bernal also revoked her right to house arrest.
He said she’d “provided an essential contribution to her mother’s escape.”
