Flat Earthers claimed they have proof that the Sun is simply a ‘projection’.
A video filmed during a flight from Australia to Japan has set off several prominent conspiracy theorists.
The clip shows a sunset taking place over the Philippine Sea.

However, conspiracy theorists said it is proof the Sun is “closer” than we’re led to believe.
Some claimed the Sun is even a “projection” – presumably beamed onto a glass dome encasing the ‘disc-shaped planet’.
Flat Earther ‘Vegastar’ shared the video on X for their 205,000 followers with the message: “On a flight from Australia to Japan, a passenger captures the sun over the Philippine Sea.
“It’s as if it just disappeared under the clouds.
“This shows you clearly that the sun is more local than we think.”
“Earth is flat…”
‘The Sun God’ posted the same clip on Instagram with the message: “More footage of people in a plane flying higher than the ‘93 million miles away sun’ that’s supposed to be in the middle of ‘outer space’…”
Even ufologist Jaime Maussan – who recently hit the headlines for presenting the bodies of two aliens in Mexico’s Congress – joined the fray.
He shared the video on Facebook for his 2.1 million followers with the message: “Filmed on a flight from Cairns, Australia, to Japan, on 20 March 2024.”
He suggested the video contained a “strange object” in the sky.
Maussan’s post quickly went viral with 136,000 views and hundreds of comments.
One fan said: “Looks like a projection or laser.”

Another wrote: “Sure looks flat to me.”
“You call that non moving mass of chemtrails poison a cloud?” commented someone else.
Umar remarked: “The sun is local and so is the moon.”

However, Aldo said: “This shows nothing but a gorgeous sunset to me.”
