The flight took off from Turin Airport, Italy, at 11 am yesterday (17 Apr)
Fifteen minutes later, an alarm sounded and the flight returned to the departure airport.
Federica, who married Giuseppe in June last year, initially had no idea that her husband was the cause of the mid-air turnaround.
After becoming unresponsive, two doctors on board the flight gave the 35-year-old CPR.
The flight crew then tried to revive him using a defibrillator.
When the flight landed at 11:35am, emergency medics boarded the plane and administered him adrenaline.
Despite their efforts, they were unable to save Giuseppe.
When Federica, who is five months pregnant, realised what was happening to her husband, she fell ill and had to be taken to hospital.
The flight was originally bound for Lamezia Terme International Airport.
Giuseppe worked at the Ferrero factory in Alba, as reported on Need to Know.
He was originally from Filogaso but lived with his wife, who is originally from Pizzo, in Cuneo.
The couple had boarded the flight to visit relatives.
