Ben Burns, a self-made entrepreneur who amassed a $10 million fortune through cryptocurrency trading in his 20s, emphasizes the importance of young individuals forsaking passive activities like watching television and playing video games if they aspire to achieve financial success.

Burns, who began his journey into trading during high school and witnessed substantial returns during his university years, stresses the need for significant sacrifices to emulate his achievements.

According to Burns, “Social media platforms like TikTok can be huge time-sinks, but they also offer valuable opportunities for connection.

They’re designed to hijack our minds and keep you scrolling for hours.” He further asserts, “It’s crucial for young people to recognize how much time they lose there. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through videos, that time could be invested in learning new skills or building something meaningful.”

Burns himself abstains from engaging in activities like video gaming and television viewing, stating, “I don’t play video games, don’t watch TV and haven’t seen a movie in five years.”

Reflecting on his upbringing in a modest environment, Burns highlights the prevalent misconception among millennials that securing a job post-graduation guarantees financial stability.

He attributes his success to a willingness to take risks, contrasting his own upbringing in a small town and attending public schools with the prevailing narrative of luxury and comfort.

Ben Burns advocates for young individuals to prioritize real-world experience over formal education, controversially urging them to consider dropping out of school. Reflecting on his own experience, Burns expresses regret over not leaving high school earlier, considering it a wasted four years that did not align with his interests.

He criticizes the educational system, likening it to a prison and encourages students to pursue endeavors that hold more significance than a high school diploma.

While pursuing a degree in computer science at Coastal Carolina University, Burns worked as a software engineer on the side, choosing to receive his salary in Bitcoin, a decision that yielded a substantial return on investment.

Recalling his parents’ initial skepticism, Burns affirms that embracing cryptocurrency proved to be a lucrative decision, driven by his passion for technology and the potential for financial gain.

Despite the financial rewards, Burns acknowledges the demanding nature of his work, recounting periods of intense dedication where he would work long hours, sometimes forgetting to eat. He highlights the relentless nature of the cryptocurrency market, where weekends and holidays offer no respite.

Acknowledging the toll on his mental and physical well-being, Burns admits to struggling with erratic sleep patterns and the challenges of maintaining a social life or dating.

Despite the drawbacks, Burns recognizes the unique opportunities afforded by his skill set, allowing him to secure remote employment and travel while working and trading.

He describes his lifestyle as privileged, enjoying the freedom to explore different parts of the world, including destinations like Thailand, Mexico, and Dubai. In the cryptocurrency industry, extravagant team vacations are commonplace, featuring amenities such as maids, butlers, private chefs, and drivers, reflecting the opulence associated with success in this field.

Ben Burns adopts a modest approach to his lifestyle, despite his financial success. While he allocates a significant portion of his budget to a $300 gym membership and a $1,000 monthly expenditure on vitamins, he maintains overall frugality.

Emphasizing the importance of keeping living expenses low, Burns reflects on his past encounters with extravagance, noting that luxury experiences quickly lose their appeal. He values intangible aspects of life over material possessions, prioritizing investments that offer long-term growth potential.

Opting for simplicity and focus, Burns prefers to avoid the burden of excessive possessions, believing that a minimalist lifestyle allows for greater peace of mind.
