A woman who flew to Turkey for a “mummy makeover” involving having four surgeries in just one day has shared her harrowing experience.
Brittany Barkway wanted to change her postpartum body 14 months after welcoming her baby, and opted to have a tummy tuck, breast lift and implants, full-body liposuction and a Brazilian butt lift (BBL).
The 26-year-old paid $20,000 AUD (£10,522) in total – including her flights to Turkey – and went under the knife last week (30 April).
But after she woke up, she was left in “the most excruciating pain” and claims three bags of morphine had little effect.
“The goal was to have a mummy makeover and look better than my postpartum body,” Brittany, a dental assistant from Melbourne, Australia, told Need To Know.
“After having my daughter, my postpartum body wasn’t great.
“I had loose saggy skin around my tummy, and my boobs dropped.
“I got my surgery in Turkey as there’s not many good plastics surgeons in Australia that have a good reputation for BBLs, and Turkey is the leading plastic surgery country in the world.
“It was always something I’ve wanted to have done.”
Brittany decided to have all four procedures done in one day so she could get back home to her child.
She said: “For me, the easiest thing was to do one surgery, smash it out, not have too much time away from my baby and get home and recover from everything all at once.”
However, she woke up to terrifying pain.
She said: “When I first came out of surgery it was a pain I haven’t experienced before.
“[It was] such a big procedure to go through so my body wasn’t used to a lot of things at once.
“The birth of my daughter was a four-hour labour and wasn’t that intensive.”
Brittany shared a clip of herself on TikTok after waking up in pain, saying she would “rather have triplets”.
In the clip – which garnered 2.7 million views – she says: “I’m telling you that this is the most excruciating pain I’ve ever been through.
“I’ve had three bags of morphine and I can still feel absolutely everything.”
Despite the experience, Brittany says that looking back a week later, the surgeries were “well worth it”.
She said: “I look at my body seven days post-op and think they’re great already.
“But I still have a long way to go in terms of recovery – usually it’s three months.
“The tummy tuck is what hurt the most and what puts you out more than any other procedure.”
For anyone looking to get something similar, Brittany advised: “My message would be to mentally prepare yourself properly for these procedures, ask for pain relief, don’t be afraid to tell them what you think is wrong or something doesn’t seem right.
“Do your research on the clinic, and take someone with you.
“Sightsee before you have surgery and make sure you’re getting exactly what you’re wanting.”
