McDonald’s has been rolling out some significant changes recently, from altering the way its beef burgers are cooked to teasing its largest burger yet and removing the iconic yellow smile from Happy Meal boxes. Now, the fast-food giant is introducing another major update to its Happy Meal offerings for the first time in years.
Traditionally priced at £3.59, the Happy Meal has long included options such as Chicken McNuggets, Veggie Dippers, Hamburger, or Cheeseburger, accompanied by sides like fries, cucumber sticks, or fruit, and a drink.

However, customers will soon have additional choices as McDonald’s launches a trial in the UK featuring four new menu items.
Kids can now enjoy a Mayo Chicken in their Happy Meal, a favorite from McDonald’s Saver Menu. This burger includes crispy-coated chicken with lettuce and mayo, nestled in a soft bun. For those who prefer fish, the new Fish Bites are an option, offering bite-sized pollock pieces in a crunchy panko breadcrumb, served with dips such as BBQ, Sweet & Sour, Sweet Curry, and Ketchup.
The trial also introduces flavored milk cartons available in chocolate, strawberry, or banana, and a refreshing dessert called the McFreezy. The McFreezy is a tangy frozen ice treat made with fruit juice and puree, available in orange or mango and pineapple flavors.
Excitingly, adults won’t miss out on these new items, which will also be part of the main menu. A serving of nine Fish Bites is available for £5.79, and the McFreezy joins the summer line-up for £1.59. However, there’s a catch: these new offerings are only available in select UK regions for a limited time. The trial will run at 187 restaurants across the North West of the UK and some locations in the Republic of Ireland, including Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside. This trial period lasts 14 weeks from May 29, and if successful, these items could be introduced nationwide next year.
This initiative follows McDonald’s unveiling its summer 2024 menu at the end of May, featuring a new burger with three patties called the Hat Trick. Priced at £5.89, or £7.69 as part of a medium meal, the Hat Trick includes two slices of cheese, grilled onions, mustard, and ketchup, all in a glazed sesame seed bun.
Additionally, from May 29, McDonald’s is adding new share boxes to the menu. The chicken share box includes six Chicken Selects, 12 Chicken McNuggets, two McNuggets dips, and two Selects dips, costing £10.59. A nine-piece Chicken Selects share box is also available for £8.49. Alongside these, McDonald’s has revamped some classic dips with improved recipes, including Garlic Mayo and Sweet and Smoky BBQ, which are now permanent additions to the menu along with Sweet Chilli.
For cheese enthusiasts, mozzarella bites with a rich tomato dip are making a return, priced at £2.39. New sweet treats are also being introduced, such as a Skittles McFlurry and a Galaxy Chocolate and Raspberry Pie, each priced at £1.99.
In addition to these new items, McDonald’s has announced a cost-saving deal for lunchtime. The three for £3 meal deal allows customers to mix and match from nine items, resulting in 165 possible combinations. The items include small fries, cheeseburger, hamburger, Mayo Chicken, four Chicken McNuggets, apple pie, veggie dippers, side salad, and a Mini McFlurry (from the core range of Oreo, Maltesers, or Smarties). This offer is available for three weeks, from May 22 to June 11, just in time for the May half-term. Don’t miss out on this deal!
