Erik ten Hag is set to remain as Manchester United’s manager, following an extensive end-of-season review.

This process, which lasted over two weeks, explored other managerial options but ultimately reaffirmed Ten Hag’s position at the helm. Negotiations for a contract extension are now underway, indicating the club’s commitment to the Dutchman.

Ten Hag’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the next season, with an option for an additional year.

Despite a challenging season that saw United finish eighth in the Premier League—their lowest position in the era—Ten Hag managed to secure the FA Cup by defeating Manchester City, marking his second trophy in two years. This victory also secured Europa League qualification for the team.

The review process, described as more thorough than usual due to the new ownership structure under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS, included consultations with other potential managers such as Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, Thomas Frank, Kieran McKenna, and Gareth Southgate. However, the club ultimately decided to stick with Ten Hag, recognizing his dedication and professional conduct.

Several factors influenced this decision, including Ten Hag’s success in integrating academy talents like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo into the first team. The review also acknowledged the numerous injuries that plagued key players throughout the season, which hampered the team’s performance. Additionally, it was noted that new signings Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana, as well as Mason Mount, who spent much of the season injured, need time to fully integrate into the squad.

Under Ratcliffe’s leadership, there have been significant changes within the club’s operations. Jason Wilcox has begun his role as technical director, and Omar Berrada is set to start as the new chief executive this summer. These changes are part of a broader strategy to enhance the club’s infrastructure and support Ten Hag’s management.

Despite being linked with other top clubs, Ten Hag has consistently expressed his commitment to leading Manchester United. The ongoing contract negotiations aim to provide him with the long-term security needed to focus on building a successful team. This move is expected to send a strong message to fans and the broader football community that Ten Hag is firmly in charge.

Sky Sports News’ chief reporter, Kaveh Solhekol, highlighted the importance of a new contract for Ten Hag. Given his stature, a longer-term deal would not only provide security but also signal the club’s full backing. With a new chief executive, sporting director, and technical director in place, the stage is set for Ten Hag to drive the club forward. The plans to upgrade the training ground and Old Trafford further underline the club’s commitment to supporting his vision.

In summary, Manchester United’s decision to retain Erik ten Hag reflects their confidence in his ability to lead the team. With new leadership structures in place and plans for infrastructure improvements, the club is positioning itself for future success under Ten Hag’s guidance.
