He later got involved in drugs and spent time in jail for theft.
He spent 21 years getting tattoos, including on his face to make it look like a skull.
He stopped in March last year when he was reportedly named Brazil’s most tattooed man.
His life of crime led him to lose guardianship of his adoptive mother, who was sent to a nursing home, in 2019.
Now, to get her back, he needs a stable job.
De Souza has been baptised and no longer takes drugs, as reported on Need To Know.
He said: “The main reason for the removal is repentance and securing a job to regain a sense of dignity.
“Enabling me to afford basic necessities like water, electricity, property tax, and child support for my son, which will be easier without the tattoos.”
De Souza was grateful when tattoo removal expert Giancarlo Pincelli offered to perform the entire process for free.
He said: “The Holy Spirit of God touched Giancarlo’s heart in São Paulo, and he blessed me with the entire treatment for free.
“Through spreading the gospel on the internet, that’s how God made it all possible.”
De Souza now has more than 86,000 Instagram followers.
He shares with them his tattoo removal journey and guidance from his newfound Christian faith.
De Souza is now trying to raise the funds to cover his travel to São Paulo from his home in Bagé, which lies more than 18 hours away by car.
He now warns people to think carefully before getting tattoos.
He cites not only the cost of their removal but also how they make others treat you like a “circus character”.
De Souza said: “Society can be cruel to you.”
