They went on the trip to the isle in the Paraná River Delta near Buenos Aires, Argentina on 12 July.
Ortiz, 22 who works as a police officer in the nearby city of Lanús, showed up late and soon became embroiled in a row with her partner, it’s alleged..
The argument reportedly became physical and Barreto’s father felt he had to intervene.
While he was trying to calm down his son, Ortiz went to her Peugeot car and allegedly grabbed her service weapon.
Without hesitation, she is said to have shot her boyfriend twice in the chest, with one bullet narrowly missing his heart.
The trio then loaded the injured victim into the car and went to seek help at the Argentine National Gendarmerie (GNA) post on National Route 12, according to reports.
An ambulance arrived to take Barreto to hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival, as reported by NeedToKnow.
His sister, who arrived at the scene shortly after his death, said: “They called an ambulance, which came quickly.
“They did everything, CPR, injected him with adrenaline, but he couldn’t resist, he was already dead.”
She added that Ortiz and Barreto, who worked as a bricklayer, had been together for about a year.
She said: “My brother had no history of stealing, he didn’t do drugs, he didn’t do anything like that.
“He was a good person and a great companion.”
Ortiz admitted to shooting the victim to Gendarmerie officers and handed over her service gun, according to local reports.
She is currently being held in custody as the investigation continues.
