Two patrol cops have delivered a woman’s baby in a sports centre.

The 27-year-old mum was walking through town with her husband when her waters broke.

The couple managed to flag down two policewomen for help.

The officers took the woman, who was eight months pregnant, to a nearby sports centre and called for an ambulance.

The cops then turned into midwives to assist the young woman as she gave birth.

The incident happened in Mexico’s capital, Mexico City, on Monday (29 Jul).

A spokesperson for the country’s Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) said: “The citizen informed the uniformed officers that she was eight months pregnant and that her waters had broken.

“They took her inside a nearby sports centre and contacted the corresponding medical services.”

However, they realised time was against them and that they would have to deliver the infant themselves, as reported by Need To Know.

They added: “When they realised the birth was imminent, they prepared themselves.

“The police officers put their knowledge and training into practice and delivered the baby, who they cleaned and wrapped up.

“After hearing the first cry, the baby was handed over to the mother.

“Paramedics from Civil Protection (PC) arrived at the scene and immediately stabilised the pair.

“After diagnosing an accidental birth, the mother and baby were transferred to a nearby hospital for further medical care.”

They added: “SSC staff are constantly undergoing training to provide assistance and respond in risky situations.”

Both mother and baby are said to be doing well.
