A six-year-old boy, his mum, and three other relatives have died in a crash 16 months after the child’s dad died in a separate accident.
The family was returning from a trip to the coast when their car hit a double-trailer lorry head-on yesterday (24 Sept).
The victims were Macir Mários da Silva, 50, Solizete Oldoni, 47, Fernanda Mários, 24, Taís Helena Cardoso Borges de Lima, 28, and six-year-old Yago Samuel.

Fernanda was Macir’s daughter, Taís was Macir’s sister-in-law, and Yago was Taís’s son.

The accident happened on the BR-280 motorway in Porto União, north-west of Florianópolis, Brazil.
The five family members and Fernanda’s husband had originally been driving back to Pato Branco in two cars.
However, one of the cars broke down en route and had to be towed away.
Fernanda’s husband continued his journey in the recovery vehicle, while the other family members continued theirs in the remaining car.
After the crash, Fernanda’s husband went into shock and had to be taken to hospital.

The 27-year-old trucker was uninjured in the crash, as reported by Need To Know.
It comes after Yago’s father, Thiago da Silva, died in a work accident when he was hit by a street cleaning vehicle on 30 May 2023.

Thiago was Macir’s brother and Taís’s partner.

Since his dad’s death in Pato Branco, Yago had been living with his mother and spending time with his aunt, uncle, and cousin.
The crash in Porto União is under investigation.
