A motorway verge that resembles a rubbish ‘dump’ has been slammed by angry motorists.
About 100 metres of litter was spotted by the side of the M58.
It was made up of rubbish that had been chucked out of car windows.
The edge of the motorway just outside of Wigan, Gtr Mancs, is littered with plastic bottles, cans and carrier bags.
It was spotted by Clean Up Britain as reported by Need To Know.
A spokesperson said: “This is what Britain looks like.”
Angry local, Chris Cummings said: “Shameful.”

Jane Hordley added: “Horrendous.”
Linda Cork fumed: “It’s an absolute disgrace.”
Andy Bissitt said: “Britain is basically, and literally, a dump.”
Krishnan Nayar added: “Why can’t Britain get simple things right?
“This is scandalous.”

One, named Ant, said: “What an absolute mess.
“I saw a woman take rubbish out of her jacket pocket and drop it on the ground.
“She was a bit taken aback when I caught up with her and said ‘I think you dropped this’.
“No doubt she’ll have done the same once my back was turned but she might also think twice.”
Another said: “The UK is a cesspit.

“I see this kind of mess all over.
“What is wrong with people because they are the cause?”
John Read, who founded Clean Up Britain, said: “It’s the responsibility of National Highways to keep the land clear of litter.

“They’re breaking the law by leaving numerous motorways in England covered in litter.”
National Highways has been approached for comment.
