A young singer has been fatally shot while traveling with her bandmates.
Thalía Manrique Castillo had just finished performing with the Guerrero Brothers Orchestra when six hooded criminals broke onto their coach.
The 27-year-old attempted to hide in the bathroom but was shot and thrown out of the bus.
Guitarist Ángel Mego said she was left badly injured lying in the road.
One hour later she was transported to a nearby hospital but sadly died.
Thalía, who was also a student, has tragically left behind a nine-year-old child, as reported by Need To Know.
She was due to graduate this November with a degree in Administration.
The orchestra, in which Thalía was a vocalist, only formed two months ago.
They were heading to Chiclayo, in Peru, after an event in Bagua Grande, San Martín.
Everything was running smoothly until the six men began shooting at the bus which forced the driver to stop.
The incident took place on a highway in the province of Bagua Grande, Amazonas region.
In addition to the irreparable loss of the young singer, the criminals stole musical instruments, cell phones, an electronic drum kit, laptops, and other belongings.
The news of the attack and death of Thalía has shocked her home country of South America.
Her band used its social media to report on the tragic event.
They expressed their pain and shared a message in memory of Thalía, writing: “Your face, your smile, and your voice will always remain in our memory.”
The National Police have begun investigations to find the whereabouts of those responsible.
