A group of stunned tourists witnessed the rare sight of a seal giving birth on a Scottish beach.
Incredible images show the seal writhing on the sandy beach at Pettico Wick harbour in front of its pals.
The amazing photos were taken yesterday (Nov 12) by Jordanna, an engagement ranger at St Abb’s Head National Nature Reserve for the National Trust for Scotland.

Onlookers were shocked at how quickly the seal gave birth, with the pup emerging in just 30 seconds, as reported by Need To Know.

A spokesperson for the reserve said it’s rare for visitors to witness the birth of a seal.
They confirmed that the pup was doing well and feeding shortly after.

They wrote: “Having watched grey seal colonies for years, it’s not that often you see a birth, with the majority of females coming ashore at night to pup.
“But yesterday, Jordanna and lots of lucky visitors on the seal event were treated to a birth right in front of them at Pettico Wick.

“It’s amazingly quick when it happens, another reason it’s not often witnessed, with just 30 seconds between the first and last pictures.
“It’s great to share our seal colonies with people and we are incredibly privileged to have been able to have been there for this special event.

“The pup was suckling shortly after.”
The images were shared on social media where tourists who were lucky enough to witness the event commented how “wonderful” it was.

Claire Lamb wrote: “We were so lucky to witness the birth. It was absolutely wonderful.”

Helen Rawlinson added: “Amazing. And we were just discussing with staff how rare it is to see a birth on Saturday.”
Kim Bell said: “How wonderful. I’ve seen this twice with baby lambs.
“It’s just being in the right place at the right time.”
Nicola Gamble commented: “Wow, amazing. So lucky to have witnessed that.”

Lavinia Macala added: “Incredible. Proud mum even looks like she posed for you in the last photo. Thanks for sharing.”
