A stray dog has been hailed a “hero” after suffering a stab wound while saving a woman from four gunmen.
The brave animal, affectionately referred to as Monkey, jumped into action when it saw a group of criminals attempting to rob a petrol station worker on the forecourt.
CCTV footage shows the suspects straddling two motorbikes as the attendant walks over to serve them.

Within seconds, the men pounce, causing her to fall to the ground.
But suddenly the dog appears – attacking the gunman and his accomplice, who slashes at it with a knife.
The plucky pooch continues barking at the two armed criminals until they turn and flee.
Visibly shaken, the victim gets to her feet.
The stray pouch licks its wound before going over to stand next to her.
Another clip shows witnesses petting the dog.
The attempted robbery took place in the Colombian capital Bogotá on 12 December.
The victim organised a whip-round to buy Monkey some food and treatment for its injury.
As the knife wound was superficial, the stray dog is expected to make a full recovery.
A police investigation to track down the four suspects is ongoing, as reported by Need To Know.
One local said: “That dog is an example that animals like him will give everything for a person, I hope he recovers from that stab wound.”
Another added: “Out of everyone there, only the little animal defended her. We don’t deserve dogs.”
Javier said: “That pooch was very brave because the two guys who were with the woman just ran away.”
Edson said: “Cowards, attacking a woman and taking it out on the dog. They can only do this in groups late at night.”
Jhony remarked: “Horrible how he stabs the little dog.”
