The infestation was flagged up after one of the inmates’ partners noticed strange marks on their daughter.
The little girl had recently visited her dad in the 1,000-man prison.
Not knowing where the bite marks came from the mother rushed her daughter to the doctors.
It was revealed that the marks were caused by insects.
The theory was relayed to other prisoners who had noticed bite marks.
The issue was then raised to police officials who have confirmed the infestation, as reported by Need To Know.
The woman, who visits the prison regularly, told Inside Time: “I can’t take my little girl to see her dad, it’s just terrible.
“Ranby is riddled with bed bugs.
“My daughter had massive bites on her legs.”
A Prison Service spokesperson stated: “A small number of cells are being treated for bed bugs.
“Including moving any impacted prisoners and disinfecting the cells to prevent spreading.”
Former inmates include Michael Carroll who won the lottery in 2002.
