Two workers were on the back of the truck, collecting bins whilst on the route.
One of the binmen can be seen heading out of the dustcart, whilst the other stayed to arrange the bags.
Suddenly, a large explosion occurred directly in the face of the worker who had stayed behind.
He instantly ran from the scene out of shock and fear, and disappeared out of view of the surveillance camera.
As smoke and dust fly through the air, a group of onlookers can be seen in the video, closely watching the truck.
A large pile of rubbish covers the road in the aftermath of the explosion.
The incident occurred in Sogamoso, north east of Bogota, Colombia last Thursday (6 Mar).
Only one worker was injured, with the other being just seconds away from harm.
Detonation occurred after a bin bag was thrown onto the pile, as reported by Need To Know.
Sogamoso police are aware of the incident and are hoping to get to the bottom of what caused the explosion.
The cause can help preventative measures to be taken with the workers in future to ensure something like this does not happen again.
There have been claims that a possible item amongst the rubbish caused the explosion.
Authorities are also exploring the theory that the explosion could have been caused due to an accumulation of waste gases.
For now, a police investigation is well underway so that the precise details can be determined.
