The revolting scenes unfolded just after 1:15 pm on Tuesday (11 Mar) at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
Local media say the brown waterfall spouted when a first-floor sewage pipe burst at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences.
The students’ union had a direct view of the mud chute from the mezzanine.
Many whipped out their phones to film the bronze shower, which reportedly lasted 15 minutes, for social media.
One reportedly summed it up: “Never seen anything this disgusting in my life.”
A faculty spokesperson told local media: “I was pretty much there when it happened.
“It didn’t smell great. Let’s just say, exactly how you’d expect when you’re on the loo yourself.
“Luckily, we were able to start the clean-up fairly quickly. The pipe is currently being replaced.
“Lectures continued as normal, and there aren’t any workspaces nearby.
“The student association’s mezzanine overlooks the affected area, so we closed that off due to the smell.
“It smells fine now. Honestly, I only get a whiff of it when I watch the video.”
The building where the leak occurred was built in 1957, as reported by Need To Know.
The cause of the rupture is under investigation.
The spokesperson added: “We’re also checking if other pipes need replacing.”
