A sheriff confronted a man accused of sending him death threats and told him: “challenge accepted”.

Mike Chitwood met his previously anonymous bully at the airport.

It’s alleged he gave the man, identified as Matthew Moulton, 45, a private lift to the county jail, where he was due to appear later that day, reports Need To Know.

In the clip, Chitwood is waiting for Moulton at the bottom of the escalators, before saying: “I’m sheriff Chitwood, I’m the guy you want to kill.”

He then says: “Challenge accepted.”

Moulton explains he sent the officer a sermon, citing the Bible, as Chitwood responds: “You do know in Florida, written threat to kill is a felony.”

The officer tells Matthew he won’t be seeing Mickey Mouse on the trip and that he’ll need to reimburse them for the flight and accommodation.

Chitwood asks, face-to-face: “Why do you want me dead?” to which Moulton replies: “I’m a Christian, I can do this.”

Another clip shows Moulton entering a police vehicle, with Chitwood noting: “We’re going to make sure your cell has rubber in it.”

According to local reports, Moulton, of Washington, US, appears to have taken issue with Chitwood, who works in Volusia, Florida, US, after he launched a campaign.

It involved releasing images of mugshots and “perp walks” of students who made false school shooting threats.

Moulton accused the sheriff of targeting people’s free speech, before threatening the police officer over email in March 2025.

It’s alleged the emails read: “I’m going to have to threaten you with death” and “It’s coming. There’s nothing you can do to stop it”.

He later claimed it was “satirical” and protected by the First Amendment.

Moulton was charged with written or electronic threats to kill, a second-degree felony and his bond was set to $100,000 (USD).

He’s set to appear in court on 19 June 2025.
