A fisherman was left shocked after reeling in a rare and eerie-looking creature that looked exactly like the monster from Men In Black.
Stefan Scheer had set out on a fishing trip at night time.
He had hoped to catch pike, perch or zander but what ended up on the end of his line was unlike anything he’d seen before.

Stefan lured in a bizarre specimen which is known as a sea lamprey, which is often referred to as the “vampire of the sea”.

The sea lamprey is considered a living fossil, and has remained largely unchanged for over 500 million years, according to local press.
It body well resembles a snake, and it has a circular mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth.
Instead of jaws, it uses its suction-cup-like mouth to latch onto other fish, scraping off flesh with its teeth to feed.
“I immediately thought of a creepy creature from the movie Men in Black,” warehouse worker Stefam told local press.

The species can grow up to 1.2 metres in length and are rarely encountered far inland, as reported by Need To Know.
Stefan’s catch was rather unusual after he encountered the underwater animal while fishing on the River Rhine, which passes through his hometown of Cologne, Germany.
The sea lamprey is a highly endangered fish species that is protected year-round in Germany.
After being caught, the fish was released back into the river shortly after it was identified.
