According to witnesses, the man leapt from the top of a concrete block into the river on a whim.
As soon as he jumped in, he vanished beneath the surface.

Just moments before, he was seen smiling and posing for photos.
Local press have reported that authorities believe a strong current in the water pulled the man under.
They think he became trapped and was swept away.
The powerful flow of the creek made it nearly impossible for his friends to help.
Emergency services were quickly alerted and rushed to the scene on Sunday (8 June) at around 6 pm, as reported by Need To Know.

Police, fire department teams and members of the Miaoli County Mountain Rescue Association arrived to help.
But due to dangerous conditions and swift currents, divers were unable to enter the water safely.
A night-long search ensued, and rescue teams were eventually forced to pause the operation at around 10 pm.
They resumed the search at 7 am on Monday (9 June), using equipment such as aerial drones to locate his body.
Authorities have not released the man’s identity, however, it has been established that he was a Vietnamese migrant worker.

Police have urged the public to exercise caution when visiting rivers or streams, especially in areas not designated for swimming.
The man fell into the Houlong River, located in Miaoli County, a county in western Taiwan.
