An infamous stapler that damaged multiple Nintendo Switch 2 consoles has sold at auction for $250,000 – along with the damaged console and underwear belonging to GameStop CEO, Ryan Cohen.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched globally on 5 June and has since sold over five million units.

But multiple unlucky customers who purchased the console from the US gaming outlet were left confused when they realised their consoles weren’t working properly.

The boxes containing the Switch 2 were thinner than expected, meaning that when GameStop employees directly stapled the receipt onto the box, it punctured through the box and broke the screen.

Several weeks on, the company put the stapler responsible for the embarrassing damages up for auction, along with one of the ‘guilty’ staples and the first console to be damaged – fully refurbished and repaired, as reported by Need To Know.

And in addition to the stapler and the console, GameStop CEO, Ryan Cohen, upped the ante, offering interested buyers his underwear.

Posting on X on 9 July, Cohen posted a link to the auction and said: “If this reaches six figures, I will include my underwear.”

On 11 July, Cohen posted a picture of what appeared to be his underwear, saying: “Sneak peek.”

The auction finished on Wednesday (16 July), with the stapler and its associated items selling for $250,000 (£186,261.36).

The proceeds raised from the auction will go to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
