A runaway sheep forced drivers to slam on their brakes as it weaved between cars and brought traffic to a standstill.
The rogue ewe sparked tailbacks along the busy route as motorists attempted to avoid hitting the animal.
Devon and Cornwall Police officers were quickly dispatched to the scene on the A30 near Okehampton, Devon, yesterday (5 August), as reported by Need To Know.

But it was a few fast-acting members of the public who ultimately helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

Helpful citizens worked with police officers to safely corral the sheep as it ran around the major A-road.
And in an unlikely twist, the animal was eventually safely detained inside a police car.
In a post on social media, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We would like to thank the amazing members of the public who assisted officers this morning.

“Their brave and baa-rilliant efforts helped us safely detain the sheep.”
Officers confirmed no injuries were reported and the animal was unharmed.
Locals were quick to react on social media, with one tongue-in-cheek post reading: “I’m guessing his sheepish attitude is gonna be put behind baaaaaaaaaaaars.”

The ewe has since been returned to safety – although it’s not yet known what prompted its great escape.
