Piranhas devoured a fish, leaving an angler stunned as he’d just hooked it seconds earlier.
Anderson Guedes was reeling in his catch when the razor-toothed predators struck.
Ripples could be seen in the water as they tore chunks off his catch.
By the time he got his line out of the water, only the fish’s head remained.
Anderson said: “I tried to reel it in, but by the time I realised, it had already lost its tail.
“See that? Look over there, look at the number of piranhas. Yeah, no chance.”
Revoltingly, Anderson and his companion decided to eat – raw – what little remained of their catch.
He said, “Out of respect for the fish, we’re going to follow a little tradition here, we’ll eat its eye.”
While his friend munched on the eyeball, Anderson tucked it into the rest of the head, as reported by Need To Know.
He said: “You don’t need to eat the scales – honestly, I’ve never eaten them, and I wouldn’t know how they’d come out on the other side.
“But the rest, look – that’s how we do it. It’s a tasty fish, so here we go. You chew what you can and spit out the rest.
“Right here in the middle of the head, where the brain is, there’s a little broth – see that? And there’s also a bit of fat, look – though it tastes a little bitter, kind of jelly-like.

“Down here at the bottom, there’s a part you can eat too; this bit here is good.
“Since the piranhas got to it, well, they got to it. That’s why we’re making use of what’s left – our breakfast.”
It happened on 23 September deep in Brazil’s Amazon jungle.
Daniel commented, “You troglodytes actually eat raw fish.”

Deigmar joked: “The fish: if I stay, I get caught; if I run, I get eaten.”
Alê asked: “The people who’re grossed out – what do they think sushi is?”
Júlio César said, “Making use of the catch is just common sense. Anyone who criticises clearly doesn’t understand survival, or what real fishermen are all about.”

And Heitor remarked: “I thought there was no one who loved fish more than me – this can’t be true.”
