Cops have been dragged into a war of words after a new young female recruit was targeted with abusive comments online.
The row erupted under a video post introducing trainee Police Community Support Officer Elizabeth, who had just finished her first week on the job.
In the clip, she talked about where she’ll be based, her role and how she’s finding the start of her career.

She even promised to share regular updates about her 12-week training course.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said “Meet Elizabeth, one of our newest PCSOs.
“She’s just completed her first week with Devon and Cornwall Police and is giving you a glimpse into what life is really like starting out in the role.
“From meeting the community to learning new skills, Elizabeth’s sharing her experiences as part of our recruitment journey series.”
But despite a warning against disrespectful or abusive comments, the post was soon flooded with vile replies.
One troll sneered: “Very pretty but useless I’d imagine.”

The force – which has its HQ in Exeter – clapped back, replying: “Maybe you could explain why you think it’s appropriate to comment on an officer’s looks rather than their role?”
Another wrote: “I love women and want the best for them and therefore I don’t think they should serve as police officers as any average build/height man could easily overpower them.
“They are at risk.”

But cops weren’t having it, as reported by Need To Know.
Devon and Cornwall Police hit back: “Respectfully, this perspective, even well meaning, is still outdated misogyny masquerading as compassion.
Modern policing is about far more than physical strength.
“Officers are trained in de-escalation, tactical communication, and the use of tools and techniques that neutralise size disadvantages.
“Female officers pass the same rigorous physical and academic tests as their male counterparts.
“Their ability to build trust, show compassion, and defuse situations without force is exactly what makes them so invaluable to modern police forces.
“Their presence isn’t a liability, it’s a critical asset.”
Another keyboard warrior chimed in with: “Looks like she’s made up for a night on the tiles. Awful”
To which the force fired back: “The only awful thing here is your comment.

“It speaks volumes about you, not our officers.”
Thankfully, plenty of people rallied to Elizabeth’s defence.
One supporter wrote: “All you people commenting mean or immature things who will you go to if you have an emergency – show them some respect – they deserve it.”
