Coronation Street favourite Brooke Vincent has revealed the heartbreaking reaction her young sons had following the death of her beloved nana Joan.
The mum-of-two – who shares sons Mexx and Monroe with partner Kean Bryan – opened up about how her boys have been coping since the tragic loss last October.
Brooke, 33, best known for her long-running role as Sophie Webster on the ITV soap, said her life was turned upside down after losing her adored grandmother, as reported by Need To Know.
“We got into heaven and [the kids] asked what it’s like, I said it’s gorgeous, there’s beaches, Nana Joan will be having wine,” the actress said.
“A few seconds passed, and he went ‘mum? How can she have wine if her eyes are closed?”
Visibly emotional, Brooke added, “I didn’t say her eyes were closed!
“Whenever I am upset about something, they presume it’s about my nana, and nine out of ten times it is about her.”
The actress said the grief still catches her off guard, even nearly a year later.

She said, “That’s the mad thing about grief, it catches you off guard in the most random of places, and it did with me.
“I went upstairs and I was just sat on the landing just minding my own business and my four-year-old asked ‘are you crying about nana Joan?’ and I went ‘yeah’ and he added ‘because she’s not coming back you know’ and I thought ‘right thanks Monroe what have you come up for’ and he just asked for his shin pads.”
Fans were quick to share their own experiences of children’s brutal honesty in grief, with one writing: “My mum was really poor and we nearly lost her.
“When it was touch and go, my son sat next to me and said, ‘Don’t be sad, it’s just nan’s time.’”
Brooke previously shared a touching tribute to her grandmother in October 2024, alongside a series of heartwarming photos of them together.
She wrote at the time: “On October 5th, our family’s whole world was turned upside down, as we lost our beautiful, amazing, ICONIC Nana Joan.

“Yesterday, we laid her to rest with a service that was full to the brim of people who loved and cared for her.
“I thought by now I would have the words to explain what this loss means to me, but the truth is I don’t think I will ever, my nanas passing has left our family feeling completely devastated and truly lost.
“Thank you to everybody who has reached out over the past unsettling month. Your love and kind words haven’t gone unnoticed.
“Nana. I couldn’t tell you anymore how much I loved you. I find comfort in knowing you always knew that, and my boys were the luckiest to have you.
“Now I’m glad of the 96 videos I have of you and our happy times!
“I know how many people on here loved and adored my nana and our videos! She always loved being ‘recognised’.
“Thank you for loving her as much as we all did. I love you, Nana.
“I will forever miss you.”
