At the time, doctors told him that he may never walk without the aid of crutches again.
But he transformed his diagnosis into an opportunity to reinvent himself, as reported by Need To Know.
Dani, who came from Catalonia, Spain, got on a bicycle and embarked on a journey that would eventually become his way of life.
He cycled over 53,438 miles (86,000km) and visited 50 countries, inspiring his 53,000 Instagram followers with a message of freedom, adventure and self-improvement.

Over the next few years, he documented his experiences on social media, where he shared landscapes, reflections, and moments of personal struggle with his ever-growing community.
But he was left devastated when he was diagnosed with colon cancer five years ago.
Dani passed away in September this year, but his wife Judit just revealed that they got married in secret in his hospital room six months ago.
In an Instagram post on Monday (1 Dec), she wrote: “Today I’m sharing something I haven’t told you before, something only my closest friends and family know.
“I know Dani wanted to share this with you when he was discharged from hospital, but that day never came.

“So I feel like telling you about something we experienced in hospital.
“Today marks our six-month wedding anniversary.
“It was in hospital room 204 with two of our dearest friends as witnesses.”
The couple tied the knot on 30 May.
Judit, who decided to make the story public as a tribute to his memory, said: “He gave me 100 days of marriage.”
