A family enjoying a Christmas film at home was left reeling after a passing Grinch ripped their festive wreath from their front door and made off with it.
Christian Sacks was enjoying the movie with two of his children at home when there was a bang outside.
He thought nothing of it until checking surveillance footage later, and was shocked to see a thief swipe the Christmas wreath from his house.
The footage showed the culprit wearing a white hat and dark coat eyeing up the decoration as he approached the door.
Then, after sizing it up, he ripped it off before fleeing out of shot with his prize.
Christian was baffled as to why anyone would want it.
“We were in the living room just watching a Christmas film called ‘A Boy Called Christmas’, the 48-year-old engineer, of Ramsgate, Kent, told Need To Know.
“And about halfway through, out of nowhere, we heard a loud thud and the window felt like it shook”
“I didn’t think much of it at first, as I live in a mid-terraced house and it sounded like it came from the next-door neighbour.
“But after 10 minutes or so, I had the feeling I should check my CCTV just in case it was someone trying to break in next door or something.
“I checked the CCTV, and that’s when I saw footage of the man walking up the road, ducking when a car came round the corner.
“Then, when the coast was clear, he checked the wreath, saw it was attached to my doorbell, and then walked away, probably thinking it was too hard to get off right away.
“But then obviously changed his mind and turned back around and gave it a firm yank, which pulled my doorbell off the door, and it flew into the road.
“It was apparent then that that was why we heard the loud thud followed by the shaking.
“I was really shocked that someone was so cold-hearted.
“I couldn’t believe someone could stoop so low to steal a wreath from someone’s front door.
“It didn’t cost a lot, it’s from Home Bargains.”
