A mourner was shot dead while leaving the funeral of a murdered footballer.
Karen Grunauer Franco was gunned down while leaving the ceremony in a car with a male companion.
Gunmen in another vehicle intercepted them and riddled their car with bullets, killing the 39-year-old content creator at the scene.
Despite being injured, the driver managed to escape and drive to a nearby police station.
He was later hospitalised in a stable condition.
The victim’s dead body was found lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds.
Karen had just attended the funeral of Mario Pineida in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, on Saturday (20 Dec).
Pineida was a fullback who played for Barcelona de Guayaquil and the Ecuador national team.
He was shot dead in Guayaquil on December 17 at the age of 33, as reported by Need To Know.

The top-flight defender was killed along with his partner, Guisella Fernández Ramírez.
Karen had recently formed a friendship with Guisella, according to reports.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Luis Obando López said they are investigating possible links between the two shootings.
The police confirmed that Karen did not have a criminal record.
She was buried in Guayaquil the day after her alleged murder.
Karen, who had 2,500 Facebook followers, leaves behind two young children.
No arrests have been made yet as the police probe continues.
