A starving, gentle giant dog found in a drug den has had a remarkable transformation.

Bella was taken into care after authorities responded to reports of cruelty.

Rescuers found her underweight with her ribs and spine protruding alarmingly.

There was no food in the property which had drug paraphernalia scattered around the floor.

Police were called in Birmingham and placed Bella – a Cane Corso-type dog – into RSPCA care so she could be taken to Newbrook Animal Hospital.

The three-year-old gentle giant needed to regain weight as she was painfully thin and her health was at risk.

She was put on a strict food plan at the hospital to help her increase her weight safely where staff were also able to monitor her progress.

After much-needed TLC and food to help Bella get back to a healthy weight she was transferred to RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre in Hertfordshire and is now looking for a home, as reported by Need To Know.

Animal rescue officer Cara Gibbon said: “It was a difficult case to deal with.

“I could see the poor dog was really in need of help as she was so thin for her size and she just seemed so sad in the property.

“It was not a suitable place for her to be living at all – with all sorts of dangers present scattered across the floors – with lots of drug needles and other hazards.

“Fortunately with the help of the police I was able to take her to safety out of the house and to Birmingham Animal Hospital for treatment.

“Bella seemed so grateful I had taken her out of the property and was just so happy with me.

“She also gave me lots of nuzzles at the hospital and was soon eating well and enjoying all things dogs love like playing and socialising.

“She is a proper big softie with lots of love to give and is super affectionate and I am so keen she finds her new home and gets the love she really deserves.

“She loves getting her harness on and going for a walk and is an all round bundle of fun who loves her treats.”
