A lung doctor has warned anyone who vapes to stay away from their pets while doing so to avoid harming their health.
Many people opt for vapes over traditional cigarettes now, even at home – but it is putting pets in danger.
Dr Neena Chandrasekaran, a medic who specialises in pulmonary and critical care medicine, often shares videos to help educate her 151,000 followers on TikTok, under the series name “Things they don’t tell you”.

One clip from the 35-year-old expert, in which she shared the risks of using vapes around your furry friends, proved popular online.
“If you are somebody who vapes, it’s very important that you do not vape around your pet,” Neena, from Florida, US, told Need To Know.

“Vaping around your pets is especially dangerous to them because it exposes them to toxic chemicals through inhalation of aerosols and accidental ingestion of the E liquid.
“Nicotine is highly toxic to pets and can cause severe symptoms such as seizures, tremors, and even death.
“Inhaling the aerosol can cause severe respiratory symptoms, especially around birds.”
The doctor also warned that a number of substances found in vapes, including THC, propylene glycol, and formaldehyde, are highly toxic to animals.
She added: “Pets are attracted to sweet smells, and if they happen to ingest the E liquid or the cartridge themselves, this can be highly fatal.”
Additionally, Neena warned that second-hand smoke is damaging to pets, raising potential risk of cancer.
She said: “Second-hand exposure of the smoke from vapes also, to pets, especially dogs, can be harmful as well, and can lead to lung damage and increase risk of cancers for your pets.”
