A knifeman has been jailed for attempted murder of a tattoo artist over a “botched” inking.

Onni Kasper Sakari Murto was sentenced to four years in prison.

The 24-year-old paid £390 for a tattoo of a scorpion skewering a frog with its stinger on his forearm.

Just days later, he complained of an “anatomical error” with the arachnid’s legs.

About a month after getting the tattoo, on 1 February last year, Murto returned to the parlour in Helsinki, Finland, to see if the design could be “corrected”.

“We discussed for a while what was wrong and what could be done,” the artist told Helsinki District Court in April.

“We didn’t reach any kind of agreement.”

During the discussion, Murto began insulting the 20-something artist before cornering him.

He then stabbed him once in the lower abdomen, twice in the chest, three times in the right shoulder, and once in the left arm with a folding knife he had brought.

“You ruined my skin, I’ll kill you,” he yelled repeatedly during the frenzied attack.

The tattooist managed to floor Murto and prise the knife from his grip, calling police as colleagues rushed to help.

His injuries were life-threatening and required emergency surgery, as reported by NeedToKnow.

Murto was initially charged with attempted murder.

He requested a mental health assessment in a bid to have the charge downgraded to aggravated assault, but the court found him legally sane at the time of the attack.

The verdict, delivered on Friday (23 Jan), accepted that carrying the knife was “completely normal” for Murto and that the attack had not been premeditated.

The court ruled there was no evidence he intended to cause serious harm, convicting him of attempted manslaughter instead.

In addition to his prison sentence, Murto was ordered to pay more than €15,000 (£13,000) to his victim for scars and trauma.

The verdict can still be appealed.
