A shocked man rushed to the aid of his neighbour after a wildfire engulfed the surrounding fields – with 50mph winds causing it to spread rapidly.
Ben Watson sprung into action as large plumes of smoke appeared around his friend’s home.
The 33-year-old, who was helping build his pal’s new home, first spotted smoke behind the neighbour’s house.

Rushing over to the scene, they saw 20-inch tall flames had engulfed an entire cornfield.
One of several clips has over 272,000 views on Instagram.
The wildfire took place in Springfield, Nebraska.
“We noticed smoke behind the neighbor’s house,” Ben told Need To Know.
“We began to see flames on the edge of the yard about to the adjoining cornfield and then called 911.
“Within 10 minutes it spread down the field to the brush a couple hundred yards away.
“The fire department showed up shortly after the video I recorded and got the fire out about an hour later.
“Luckily, the homeowner just finished his final grading so there was dirt surrounding his house not allowing the flames to engulf his house.
“The wind was blowing 50+ mph which spread the fire rapidly and allowed the flames to reach 20 inches tall.”
Ben was evacuated along with all the vehicles and work trucks in the area to make space for the emergency services.
The fire was stopped before reaching a large area of bushes and trees.
The shocking footage was captured on 21 Jan.
Social media users have been left stunned by the footage – though some tried to see the “sunny side” of things.
“On the sunny side, You got room for that new pool house now,” said Joey.

Paul added: “Someone just wanted to turn the heat on outside to keep ya warm.”
Chad said: “Holy smokes that’s crazy.”
Someone else added: “I would be hosing that guy’s house down with a hose.”

Chris added: “Moves so fast.”
