Doctors were stunned to find a 2.5cm pen tip embedded in a man’s eye socket 27 years after it got wedged in there.
The 46-year-old patient, surnamed Fang, said he was jabbed in the eye with a pen during a fight with a classmate when he was 19 years old.
The top of the ballpoint pen remained in his left eye socket for nearly three decades.

At the time, he received three stitches in the hospital and doctors found no further problems.
A small lump appeared at the injury site three years later, but it wasn’t painful and he didn’t think any more of it.
But in recent months, Mr. Fang had noticed the lump had grown significantly, with increased redness and swelling.

It started to become painful so he went to see Dr. Hu Wenxue at the Shenzhen People’s Hospital in Shenzhen, China.
The pen tip was discovered inside his eye socket following a CT scan, as reported by What’s The Jam.
After it was removed, the object was found to be tightly wrapped in granulation tissue.

Mr. Fang said: “I never imagined that the problem that caused me so much bother for so many years was actually caused by this!”
He has been recovering well following the operation.
Doctors pointed out that it’s important to have a detailed examination if you have a consistent problem, even if the wound appears to have healed, especially if you experience recurrent redness, swelling, lumps, pain, or unexplained vision loss.
