Paintings by acting legend Gene Hackman, who died in 2025 in shocking circumstances, are on sale at bargain prices.
The Oscar-winning star of classics such as The French Connection, Superman and The Conversation was an avid art fan.
Some of the works he painted himself or owned, including portraits and landscapes, are being sold off.

Other items from his estate are also on sale, including Academy Award nomination certificates for The French Connection and Bonnie and Clyde.
Most are priced at £150 though a personalised set of golf clubs is on offer for £500.

After retiring from Hollywood in the mid-2000s, Hackman settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he lived quietly for decades.
He produced a substantial body of paintings, as reported by Need To Know.
Much of his later life deliberately shunned the spotlight and he lived a quiet life in the desert.

Hackman was well versed in a broad art history, and as well as his deep admiration for Georgia O’Keeffe, he was drawn to – and collected – works by a Cartier Bresson and Motherwell, among many others.
After his death, locals discovered Hackman’s own paintings around the city.
At Jinja Bar and Bistro, a restaurant he helped finance, there were a cluster of vibrant beachscapes, landscapes, and prints that had long greeted diners without knowledge of the artist’s previous career as one of Hollywood’s leading men.

Hackman won two Oscars for his roles in 1971’s The French Connection and 1992’s Unforgiven.
He died in February 2025 after suffering with Alzheimer’s and a heart condition.
Hackman’s body and that of his wife, who was his primary car giver and died of an infection, were both found in their home at the same time.
The items are being auctioned online by Bonhams on Thursday (Feb 26). The auction is based in Los Angeles, US.
