A footballer allegedly beat his own mother into a coma before throwing himself into the sea.
Riccardo Merkuri and his mum, Albana Kastriot, were having dinner at home on Friday (20 Feb) – his 20th birthday.
His father, Mario Merkuri, and older brother were out at the time.

It is believed Riccardo and Albana, 53, began quarrelling at the table.
Neighbours reportedly heard shouting and called the police shortly afterwards.
When officers arrived, Albana was found unconscious in the bathroom, surrounded by blood.
Riccardo had already fled the scene in Pollenza, Italy, apparently in shock and possibly believing he had killed his mother.

Leaving his phone behind, he drove to Civitanova Marche, walked to the edge of the dock, and jumped into the icy water.
CCTV footage reportedly captured him climbing back out, removing his jacket, and jumping a second time.
Albana remains in a medically induced coma in Macerata with a fractured jaw and other facial injuries.
Her condition is serious but not life-threatening. She may undergo maxillofacial surgery this week.
On Sunday (22 Feb), after 38 hours of searching, divers recovered Riccardo’s body, as reported by Need To Know.

A forensic doctor identified hypothermia and drowning as the cause of death.
Samples of biological fluids were taken on Monday (23 Feb) to check for drugs, although he was not a known user.
Riccardo played football for local team ASD Montemilone Pollenza, which competes in Italian regional amateur leagues.
He had recently found work as a labourer.
His Albanian parents have lived in Pollenza since the 1990s. His mother runs a beauty salon and his father a small construction business.
Montemilone had not issued a statement about the tragedy at the time of writing.
Mario told local media: “I’d rather not say anything.”
