Britain’s loneliest dog is still waiting for a forever home after a heartbreaking three years in care.
Rico has had the longest ever stay at a re-homing charity.
The eight-year-old Staffy cross spends his weekends with different volunteers to give him a break from the kennels.
Thriving in human company, Rico is described as very handsome and affectionate.
But he does have attachment anxiety, as reported by NeedToKnow.
A spokesperson for Homeless Hounds in Fylde, near Preston, Lancs, said: “He has lived with us, in kennels, for over three years.

“He deserves so much more.
“He is a sweet handsome boy who forms strong emotional bonds.
“He thrives in human company.
“Rico is a very affectionate boy and loves to lie across your legs while you stroke him.
“His favourite thing is being stroked and being close to you.
“He is a very easygoing boy and happy to fit into your routine – as long as he’s with you, he’s a happy boy.
“Rico needs to be the only pet – he cannot share his home with cats, dogs or furry pets.
“Rico is house-trained and lets you know when he needs to go outside.
“He has not had one accident in his foster home.

“Rico does have separation anxiety and doesn’t like being left alone for long periods of time.
“This is improving slowly as he becomes more settled and confident.
“Rico would be ideal for a home worker or someone around most of the time, especially to begin with, while he settles in his new home.
“His part-time fosterer has done wonders with Rico so far and said with the right trust and training, he believes Rico will improve here.
“Rico is an amazing faithful boy who will make an excellent companion for anyone who can give him the time love and re-assurance.”
