A dancing robot had to be carried away by its handler after going rogue during a performance.

The humanoid unexpectedly malfunctioned during a school sports day event.

Footage showed the nimble bot performing dance moves and martial arts kicks on a sports field.

Students then ran onto the pitch to perform a synchronised dance routine, but the little bot got in their way.

It was seen tripping itself up and falling to the ground before aiming kung-fu kicks towards baffled performers

The robot’s handler ran onto the pitch and scooped it into his arms before any damage could be done.

The erratic performance took place during a school sports day in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in north-western China.

No reports of injuries to students have emerged after the clip went viral on the Chinese social network Douyin.

One local said: “Too many people confused him, he wanted to dance without causing any harm.”

China has rapidly expanded the use of humanoid robots in public events, schools, and demonstrations in recent years as part of its ambitious push into advanced robotics and artificial intelligence.

Such performances are often intended to showcase technological progress and engage younger audiences.

Last month, a robot was filmed slapping a boy in the face during a dance show in Shaanxi Province, as reported by Need To Know.

The humanoid bot used sweeping arm moments during the dance recital.

The pirouetting bot caught the lad fully in the face with one careless spin.

It appeared to catch a smaller lad on the forehead in the same movement.

The controller was seen turning the robot off as the video came to an end.

One local said: “The child anticipated it, but there was no way out.”

Another person said: “What a dangerous performance.”

One viewer added: “It really hurts to be hit by metal.”
