A TV presenter has passed away after battling a long illness.
Mariela Flores passed away in hospital last night (6 May).
She had been receiving treatment at the La Granja hospital in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa since the beginning of this year, as reported by Need To Know.

The presenter had not appeared on the airwaves throughout 2026.
Mariela, a journalist and producer with Honduras’ Corporación Televicentro group, was fondly remembered for her professionalism, dedication and warm personality both inside and outside the newsroom.

Alejandra Andino, corporate news director for Televicentro and Emisoras Unidas, expressed the group’s deep sadness.
She said: “We are extremely shocked and saddened by this news.
“From the moment we learned of Mariela’s diagnosis, we supported her and her husband in every way we could as a company and as colleagues.”
She added that Flores and her family had been “an example of responsibility and commitment”.
Flores was also the partner of Elías Acosta, a presenter on TN5 Estelar on Canal 5.
Tributes poured in from across Honduras, highlighting her commitment, humanity and close relationships with colleagues.

As a wife and mother, her loss has left a profound void in both her family and wider journalistic community.
Her colleagues at http://tunota.com , Radio HRN and Televicentro described her as a passionate journalist who left a lasting impression through her work and personal qualities.
A spokesperson for Radio HRN said her loss creates a “significant void” within the industry where she was admired for her tenacity and commitment.
Her age and exact cause of death have not been disclosed.
She leaves behind two young children.
