He was left lying on the roadside, shaken and in tears, while others tried to console him and pull him to safety.
A second clip, filmed from a distance, shows a huge cloud of dust being thrown up as the lorry skidded down the steep slope.
The incident took place along the Zoji La mountain pass in northern India on Friday (29 May).
The lorry was en route from Sonamarg to Kargil at the time, as reported by Need To Know.
According to reports, the driver lost control while reversing during a manoeuvre to turn, causing it to skid and plunge off the road.
Despite the sheer drop of around 400ft, the driver managed to escape unhurt, while his passenger was already outside the vehicle.
The HGV, however, was completely destroyed.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.
Both men were taken to a healthcare facility in Sonamarg as a precaution.
The Zoji La pass, at an altitude of around 11,575ft, is considered one of the most dangerous mountain routes in the country.
The highway, known for its sharp curves and deep valleys, is often affected by avalanches, landslides and slippery conditions.
In order to improve year-round connectivity, work is underway on a tunnel expected to become operational by 2028.
