A talented 16-year-old female footballer has been killed after the motorbike she was riding crashed into a lorry.

Guadalupe Ludmila Lozano’s untimely death has prompted questions over the role of police officers who reportedly chased her through the streets.

Two other adolescents aged 14 and 15, who were also on the motorbike, were seriously hurt with fractures and polytrauma.

One remains in critical condition in intensive care, according to local reports.

The accident occurred at the junction of Catamarca and Juan Díaz de Solís streets in Río Cuarto, Córdoba Province, Argentina.

Guadalupe, a talented player with local clubs Estudiantes and Renato Cesarini, suffered fatal injuries in the impact on Tuesday afternoon (2 Jun).

Witnesses raised concerns that a police patrol car was closely following or pursuing the group moments before the crash.

Some even suggested there was possible contact with the back of the teenagers’ motorbike that contributed to her losing control.

Prosecutor Pablo Jávega, who is leading the investigation, confirmed a police vehicle was behind the motorbike at the time, but described it as a “following” or monitoring operation rather than a high-speed pursuit.

He stated: “A patrol car from the Córdoba Provincial Police was following them.

“It was not a pursuit, but a following.

“It could have been for a traffic stop, I don’t know if there was a 911 call beforehand.”

Investigators are examining CCTV footage, gathering witness statements, and awaiting forensic reports to reconstruct the sequence of events, including vehicle speeds, braking marks, and any potential contact.

Guadalupe’s father, Maximiliano Lozano, has spoken publicly of the family’s anguish and desire for the truth.

He described receiving accounts from neighbours and witnesses, but said the authorities had not yet contacted them directly.

He noted the motorbike was a gift he gave his daughter last December, used mainly for short trips near home, and suggested she may have become frightened upon seeing the police vehicle.

He dismissed some circulating theories, such as his daughter stopping to help the two boys evade a police team.

The football clubs where Guadalupe played have issued tributes.

Estudiantes posted: “We accompany her family, teammates and loved ones in this painful moment, offering our most sincere condolences.”

Renato Cesarini added that “her departure mourns the entire orange family and finds us in a moment of immense sadness.”

The case has stirred deep emotion in Río Cuarto’s football community, where Guadalupe was remembered for her enthusiasm and bright future in the women’s game.

The 32-year-old lorry driver involved in the collision is cooperating with the authorities and has not been arrested, as reported by Need To Know.

The investigation is ongoing.
