A World Cup worker was tragically killed after being hit by a drunk driver while walking from the match.

Aaron Avery sadly lost his life after a suspected drunk driver ploughed into him whilst speeding after just his second game on the job.

The 22-year-old was immediately rushed to hospital in critical condition and multiple injuries – including serious trauma to his brain.

Despite being put on life support whilst crucial tests took place, Aaron was sadly pronounced dead on 16 Jun, as reported by Need To Know.

The young man was volunteering at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, in the security department.

He was working at the Iran vs New Zealand match before being hit at around 10:30pm on 15 Jun by the suspected drunk driver.

According to reports, the driver claimed he could not see Aaron as he was allegedly wearing all black at night.

The family have been left devastated by the sudden loss of the ‘caring and dedicated son’.

They have now set up a GoFundMe in his honour to raise funds for end-of-life expenses, medical bills, and funeral costs.

The fundraiser, which has a target of £15,155 ($20,000), has raised over £6,800 ($9,000) in just three days.

According to reports, Aaron donated his heart, lungs, liver and kidneys – which have the potential to save up to eight lives.

Kim Hill, who started the GoFundMe, stated: “Aaron Avery was walking home from SoFi Stadium after volunteering to help with the FIFA Soccer World Cup 2026.

“Tragically, he was struck by a driver under the influence who was speeding, leaving Aaron in critical condition with multiple injuries.

“The most serious injury was trauma to his brain, and he was placed on life support while doctors conducted further examinations.

“The next day, Aaron was pronounced to have transitioned, leaving his family and friends devastated by the sudden loss.

“Aaron was a caring and dedicated son who loved helping his community. His involvement with the World Cup was a source of pride for him and his family.

“The unexpected tragedy has left his loved ones facing significant end-of-life expenses, medical bills, and funeral costs.

“We are reaching out to the community for support during this difficult time, hoping to ease the financial burden and honour Aaron’s memory.

“We would like to thank in advance those who can contribute, and for those who cannot, we appreciate your well wishes and gratitude.

“Please share the link to help spread the word and support Aaron’s family as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.”
